Parent Expectations
If you are unable to attend your volunteer time, please find a replacement or contact me immediately. The sooner I know, the sooner I can readjust my day! Wednesday folders are a great time to sit down with your child and discuss their education. Ask your child about something they may be learning about or about their personal relationships at school. Also, you can be my ears away from school. If you hear of any inappropriate behavior that is occurring on campus, please let me know. Also, please help your child establish a homework routine. Be sure that your child has a quiet space to complete their work and encourage them to turn it in the following day!
In language arts, we are moving on to writing a summary for fiction text. We are using the same planning format the students have been using.
As a recap from last week’s newsletter, the following is what we need to look for:
Topic sentence that includes:
I – identity of the author and title
V – verb it!
F – finished thought
Fact Outline:
-This should only include the most important details or facts
- This should eliminate unnecessary elaborations
Conclusion:
-It needs to restate, in different words, the topic sentence
Further, we are teaching the students that there are elements in a story that do not need to be included in a summary. We’re also reviewing parts of speech.
In math, all grades will be having a Unit 2 test on Monday, October 17th. Study guides went home today, October 12th, and is due on Friday, October 14th.
I plan to offer after school math help, by yours truly. This isn’t mandatory but it’ll be very useful. This starts on Tuesday, October 25th from 2:45 pm to 3:15 pm. This is for serious students only. I will ask a student to leave if they are disruptive to others’ learning. As a reminder, I will put a sign on the door when it is a tutoring day.
Our classroom website is COMING SOON! I am in the final stages of finalizing the content and the online gradebook. I will send home a letter with all the appropriate information.
Fun Fridays will begin this Friday, October 14th. The theme that we have chosen is music!
Congratulations to Room 23 for having the highest sales for our recent school fundraiser! As a reward, I will be singing karaoke with Dr Sellers in front of the entire school! Great selling Room 23!
